The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs is the largest of the ministries within the Government Offices. The Swedish foreign service consists of more than 100 missions. Two are located in mainland China, the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing and the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai.

The Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai represents Sweden in Shanghai and the provinces of Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. The Consulate General promotes Swedish interests in the region. The Consulate General issues visas for travel to Sweden and provides consular service for Swedish citizens.


16 staff work full time at the Consulate General, including four diplomats from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. During the summer months one to two additional staff join the Consulate General from the Migration Agency to work with the increased load of visa applications. The Consulate General has one intern per semester.
