Hej, Let's do Swedish FIKA on Weekend!
"Pepparkakor" is a Swedish ginger cookie like a ginger snap often made for Christmas cookies. In Sweden, gingerbread cookies are more than just a tasty treat. They are a part of the country's cultural heritage. Swedish gingerbread cookies are traditionally baked during the Christmas season and are a staple of Swedish Christmas celebrations. They are often served with mulled wine and are used to decorate Christmas trees as well.
Swedish gingerbread cookies have a long history dating back to the 16th century. The cookies were originally made by professional bakers and were only available to the wealthy. However, over time, the recipe became more accessible to the general public, and gingerbread cookies became a popular treat for all Swedes.
Today, gingerbread cookies are not only enjoyed during the Christmas season but are also a popular snack throughout the year. They are often shaped into different figures, such as hearts, stars, and animals. Gingerbread cookies have become a symbol of Swedish culture and are a must-try for anyone visiting Sweden.
On 18 November, SwedCham China and SWEA(Swedish Women Education Association)are happy to co-organize the event. We have invited two Swedish ladies from SWEA to teach participants how to bake "Pepparkakor" in a Swedish way and learn some simple Swedish words during the baking session.
