Tom has lived in Mainland China and Hong Kong for 35 years and will share his perspective on the changes to China's business landscape for foreign-owned companies during this time. He will also discuss risks and opportunities for Swedish businesses operating in China and how businesses can gain influence among internal and external stakeholders through communications.
China first announced a foreign investment and opening up policy in 1978. Since then, China has introduced the new Foreign Investment Law and policies that are helping multinationals understand their opportunities for growth in China in the coming years. The landscape is rapidly changing, and significant challenges remain for Swedish companies to manage internal and external stakeholder relations and communications amid China's rising international influence, geopolitical tensions and COVID-19's global economic fallout.

About the speaker
Tom Grimmer was Kreab's Managing Partner for China from 2009 - 2013 and returned as Senior Partner in May 2019. Tom began his Asian career in Beijing in 1985, later working as a journalist for the South China Morning Post, the Globe & Mail, and the Financial Post (Canada). Tom transitioned from journalism to communications in the mid-1990s when he joined a Hong Kong investment bank, Peregrine. During the Asian Financial Crisis of 1998, Tom joined Credit Suisse First Boston and then Credit Suisse. He went on to be Head of Communications, Asia, for HSBC, covering 21 markets, and was a member of the Executive Committee of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. He now shares his time between Beijing, Hong Kong and Canada.
