Every year the world produces more than 300 million tons of plastic, including billions of plastic bottles and five billion plastic bags. Last year 480 billion plastic drinking bottles were sold across the world – up from 300 billion a decade earlier. If placed end to end, this would reach halfway to the sun.
Sadly, huge amounts of plastic is not recycled and end up littering our landscape and our oceans. Since plastic does not decompose natural beauty is being ruined, plastic is entering our own food chain, and entire ecosystems are threatened.
Following our Plastic Free Challenge, we would like to invite you to a sharp talk about reducing plastic waste, with an update on current regulations, initiatives and measures that are being enforced in Sweden and in China in order to reduce plastic waste.
To lead this sharp talk we have invited Åsa Stenmarck from IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. Åsa Stenmark currently works as a Group Manager at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute in Stockholm, and is responsible for the development of the field waste at IVL. We have also invited Caroline He from our member company Epiroc, who has joined the Plastic Free Challenge, to share lessons learned and experiences from implementing a plastic free strategy at Epiroc.
