SwedCham China is delighted to co-host a seminar in collaboration with SwissCham and Luther Law Offices to discuss intellectual property protection for manufacturing companies in China.
Did you know that in 2020 China passed the U.S in number of filed global patent applications? Companies large and small in virtually every industry globally as well as in China increasingly use and rely on intellectual property. In today's economy, the "intellectual capital" embodied in inventions and creative content can be as important to economic growth as traditional capital, goods and services. Thus, effective IP management has become a major criterion for international enterprises in successfully doing business in the Mainland and globally.
We will begin the seminar with a presentation and then move on to a panel discussion, where the speakers Raymond Kok and Yuemei Zhang will be joined by Sven O. Otten, General Manager of Tuenkers Automation and Ulrich Mierswa, General Manager of Schwartz Heat Treatment Systems, to discuss the legal issues and experiences from a corporate point of view.
The seminar addresses a range of topics including:

Raymond Kok
Attorney-at-Law (Germany), Partner (China) at Luther Law OfficesRaymond Kok has been working as a lawyer in the People's Republic of China since 2008. He has extensive expertise and significant experience in corporate and IP law. He also advises on complex cross-border corporate acquisitions and restructurings, negotiations with Chinese contractual partners as well as on compliance. Ulrich Mierswa
General Manager at Schwartz Heat Treatment Systems Asia (Kunshan)Mr. Mierswa was born in 1958 in Germany and graduated with master degree in electrical engineering at TU Darmstadt in 1985. He started as Sale Engineer with Leybold Heraeus, the renowned producer of vacuum machinery and has been in the machinery and furnace industry since then. Mr. Mierswa moved to China in 1998 and has served several medium size German companies in Beijing, Shanghai and Jiangsu. Since 2010 Mr. Mierswa works for schwartz in Kunshan, where he leads the schwartz team for manufacturing of hot stamping furnaces for light weight automobiles and for related services in the entire Asian region.
Sven O. Otten
General Manager at TUENKERS (Jiangsu) Automation TechnologyMr. Sven O. Otten, born in Germany, completed his apprenticeship as a precision mechanic, he studied mechanical engineering at Cologne University of Applied Sciences. After his first station in the film-processing industry, he switched to machine tools industry to work for renowned global companies. Here, after a short time, he was already responsible for the China market and its development and expansion. During his career, he passed through the stations from the area sales manager, internationally responsible sales director, to the general manager of a German machinery company out of the automotive and automation industry. At this company, he reorganized the China branch and optimized processes. Since 2018 he is the responsible General Manager of an automation company in the automotive area in Taicang. More than 26 years of work experience, thereof 23 years in the area of machine building and 7 years in the automotive industry, responsible for the market China for more than 21 years, for more than 8 years he lives in Taicang near Shanghai. Additionally he did some voluntary work from 2015 to 2017, where he was the Chairman of the Taicang Roundtable, an industry organization for German and European SME companies in Taicang, working closely together with the German Chamber of Commerce and the Taicang Government.
Yuemei Zhang
Senior Associate, Patent Attorney uther Law Offices at Luther Law OfficesYuemei has got her Master of Laws from Tongji University and previously got a Bachelor of Engineering (Industrial Design) from Donghua University.
