One of our most interesting seminars earlier this year. It is now back with an updated version for the fall!
Since 2000, China's electricity demand has risen more than six-fold. At the same time, the country has become a global leader in clean technology development, manufacturing and deployment, spanning EVs, batteries, solar, grids and hydrogen. What is emerging is more than an energy transition. It is a fundamental shift towards an economy increasingly built around electricity rather than fuels.
Following one of our most highly rated and positively received sessions this spring, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and SEB are bringing the discussion back with an updated edition. Building on the previous session, this session will continue the conversation around China's electrification journey, examining recent developments and their implications for businesses operating in or alongside China.
Some observers are calling this the rise of the world's first "Electrostate", where abundant and increasingly low-cost electricity becomes a foundation for industrial competitiveness, not simply a tool for decarbonisation. The implications reach far beyond climate. China's rapid electrification and its position across critical technology supply chains are already reshaping global trade, manufacturing and investment.
For Nordic and European businesses, the question is increasingly not whether this transformation is happening, but how fast it is moving and what it means for companies competing with, selling to or operating alongside China. We will explore how China electrified so quickly, what has changed since our last discussion and where the transition is heading next.
This will be a hybrid event, also open to members of the Danish Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong, FinnChamHK as well our APAC sister Chambers, bringing together the wider Nordic business community in Hong Kong and participants joining online. Drinks and light refreshments will be provided following the seminar, offering an opportunity to continue the conversation and connect with fellow participants.
