The Swedish Chamber of Commerce in China warm welcome you and your colleagues to join our upcoming one-day workshop in Shanghai on Wednesday, 20 May 2026 about "Effective Negotiation Skills" and this workshop will be conducted in English.

Overview:

The Effective Negotiation Skills (ENS) framework is a structured approach to achieving mutually beneficial outcomes through clear preparation, disciplined communication, and adaptive strategy. It guides individuals to define objectives, understand both parties' interests, assess options, and plan concessions before entering a negotiation. During the interaction, ENS emphasises building rapport, asking purposeful questions, and actively listening to uncover value and move towards agreement, balancing outcomes with strong working relationships.

Teaching Method:

Lectures, Case Studies, Group Discussions, and Exercises

Agenda:

ENS Step 1) Diagnose Needs

Develop a clear understanding of both parties' objectives, interests, and constraints. This includes identifying underlying needs (not just stated positions), mapping priorities, and considering the broader context to build a complete negotiation picture.

ENS Step 2) Style

Select and adapt an appropriate negotiation style based on the situation, balancing assertiveness with collaboration. Participants build the ability to flex their approach intentionally to maximise outcomes while maintaining relationships.

ENS Step 3) Control the Climate

Actively shape the negotiation environment to support productive dialogue. This includes managing timing, setting, and emotional tone to create the conditions for effective communication and decision-making.

ENS Step 4) Tactics & Counter-Tactics

Recognise and apply key negotiation tactics while responding effectively to those used by others. Focus is placed on understanding power dynamics, maintaining perspective, and avoiding reactive decision-making.

ENS Step 5) Manage Phases

Navigate the negotiation process through distinct phases: exploring information, generating solutions, and reaching agreement. Emphasis is placed on maintaining structure, momentum, and clarity at each stage.
