SwedCham Shanghai is glad to partner up with More than a Market, a CSR initiative jointly run by the German Chamber of Commerce in China and the German diplomatic missions, to discuss inclusion in businesses.
More than ten million people in China have been diagnosed with autism, a congenital developmental disorder. Two million of them are children who, when they grow older, face daunting challenges, including finding gainful employment. Young professionals barely have chances to start a career due to lack of employment options for people with autism. Yet, there are many advantages to employ individuals with autism spectrum disorders as they have many distinctive characteristics. Their special abilities can be such as the attention to detail, the ability to concentrate for prolonged periods, the patience for repetitive work and sensitivity to numbers and models. These skills are sometimes well-suited to working in the IT sector which can give people with autism the chance to find a regular job and become more self-sufficient.
There have been improvements in recent years to create inclusive pathways, yet much remains to be done. While private organizations can do a lot to bring such a change, they often do not have sufficient funding due to a lack of awareness in society at large. Therefore, companies can add value by hiring people with autism which will help them not only to have a productive employment but also a fulfilled and productive life.
The More than a Market hosts are calling all CEOs and CFOs, Diversity & Inclusion Experts, CSR and HR Department Heads and all further interested parties to join and find out how corporates can actually benefit from hiring people with autism. Not only will you gain insights from companies who already have started to employ people with autism through project introductions but also learn in our panel with experts from the corporate and not-for-profit sector, how itactually benefits your business, both financially and socially.
