Join us on this exclusive half day event visiting AstraZeneca's Innovation Center in Wuxi, Jiangsu!
The integration of tech and health care alongside innovation and incubation are all core projects of AstraZeneca. During this half day event, we will visit their innovation center, incubation hub and IoT centre, walking their visual journey and then taking a break for lunch and coffee before returning to Shanghai.
AstraZeneca, who entered China in 1993, is a company from the UK and Sweden with a commitment to becoming China's most trusted healthcare partner. Over the years, AstraZeneca has invested in building several centers around Shanghai and Wuxi. Major therapy areas include respiratory, oncology, cardiovascular, renal, metabolic and gastrointestinal.
In their China Healthcare IoT Innovation Center, AstraZeneca aims to create patient-centric holistic management solutions through integrating diagnosis and treatment - many of which have already been implemented and promoted nationwide with positive results. Make sure to take the opportunity to tour around the centers that many political and business leaders have visited before!
To maximize this tour, we can offer Shanghai travellers joint transportation to Wuxi the day before the event as well as an exclusive discount if you stay at the Pullman Hotel overnight. The bus from Shanghai will depart from SwedCham's office (989 Changle road) on April 21st at 6:00pm. We will arrive at Pullman Hotel in Wuxi's New District around 8:30-9pm. For overnight stay at the Pullman hotel, kindly register the additional hotel ticket on top of your event ticket. In the morning of 22nd we take a quick walk over to AstraZeneca's Innovation Center.

Alec van Gelder
Executive Director, International Government Affairs of AstraZeneca ChinaAlec van Gelder is Executive Director, International Government Affairs for AstraZeneca. In this role, Alec leads the Region to drive national and regional priorities and supports regional strategic initiatives that enable AZ to establish closer partnerships with governments.
Alec joined AstraZeneca in 2011 as Global Director for Public Policy in the UK. He has also held roles as Director of Access and Affordability establishing and leading AstraZeneca’s flagship Healthy Heart Africa program.
Prior to joining AZ, Alec was Policy Director for International Policy Network in the UK. Alec holds a Master’s degree in Economics from University de Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium and a Finance Degree from Lehigh University in the USA.

Michael began his career as a medical doctor in the US, and then as a management consultant serving at the Boston Consulting Group in Shanghai. In 2010 he joined Sanofi to become Head of Strategic Planning for Asia, where he led the development of the “Next Billion Consumers” county market strategy. He subsequently went on to become the Head of Biosurgery BU and VP of Oncology BU. Prior to joining AstraZeneca China as VP, Head of Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic Diseases (CVRM) Business Unit in June 2017, he was VP of Sanofi China’s Diabetes BU where he led the team in delivering an annual growth of 20%, significantly outperforming the market.
Michael holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the University of California, San Francisco, a Master of Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Art in Biological Sciences from Harvard University.
Michael is a board-certified physician in the U.S., having trained at UCLA in internal medicine and at the USC Doheny Eye Institute in ophthalmology.
