Dear Member,
As we are marching into the next big yearly celebration in the last ½ months with Chinese New Year around the corner, I realize how lucky we are to live in a place in the world where we can look forward to these events together with friends and families, and my heart goes out to those that don't get to feel this way in some other parts of the world where their lives are defined by a war zone. So, it's a time to be grateful for and show gratitude to, and hope for others to get the same opportunities in the nearest future.
I also want to express immense gratitude to my wonderful team, that works tirelessly to find new interesting topics, events, and courses to fulfill our member needs and wants. Teamwork really does make everyone's Dream work!

| Trademark registration plays a vital role in securing trademark protection in China. Over 7 million trademark applications were submitted for registration in China in 2022 according to an official report from China's Trademark Office ("CTMO"). As of the end of 2022, the total number of registered trademarks in China exceeded 42 million. Registration is essential for establishing exclusive rights and preventing others from using the registered trademark without permission. By successfully registering a trademark, the owner is granted legal authority to enforce their exclusive rights and take action against any unauthorized use by third parties. Additionally, once a trademark is registered, owners may file their trademark with customs to prevent others from engaging in import or export activities using the same or similar brand or trademark. |

| In October, three of our employees set out on the journey of a lifetime to Yunnan Province as volunteer teachers to surprise their classrooms with a special in-person visit. This rare opportunity for our teachers to meet face-to-face with their students has not only brought a bright smile to the little ones’ faces, but also reminded us why we do what we do for our local communities. Back in September 2022, Volvo Car China launched an online volunteer teaching program for our employees. Working with the well-established local NGO platform “Volunteer online project 2.0”, the program recruited a select group of our employees to teach children who live in rural, underprivileged areas lacking access to quality education. |

| The Swedish Chamber of Commerce in China is happy to present a white paper on the topic of sustainability in supply chains, and how companies can work with Cross-Sector Partnerships (CSPs) and other strategies in order to achieve greater sustainability across their supply chains. In order to achieve this, Swedcham China questioned two Swedish companies that are leading the process for improving sustainability: SKF and Inter IKEA in East Asia. Their deep knowledge and experience provides two excellent cases that other companies can draw lessons and inspiration from regarding how to level up the sustainability of their supply chains and operations. We are also thankful to IVL for providing an insightful foreword to this white paper, and setting the tone for the core messages of this report. |

On Dec. 1st, the 2023 Swedcham China Christmas season officially started with the extraordinary Christmas dinner in Beijing. Last year, we unfortunately canceled the Beijing Christmas dinner due to the COVID situation. This year however, we were more than happy to hold the 2023 Beijing Christmas Dinner at Fork by TRB, TRB Hospitality Group, a unique restaurant tucked away in the heart of the old Beijing Yangfang hutong area. Sitting at the beautiful venue of the glass room, we enjoyed a great Christmas dinner and listened to AcaLab 爱卡人声, a cappella choir, performing Christmas songs. It was an unforgettable evening of enjoying very delicious food and views of Houhai Lake in Beijing.
A shout-out went to AcaLab 爱卡人声 for your excellent performance. Thank you, Fork by TRB, for becoming our venue partner. Special gratitude goes to Latour for booking the company table with the Swedcham Christmas gift bag. Thank you, all our guests, for joining us and creating great memories together.
On this upcoming Friday, Swedcham China will hold the second Christmas dinner in Shanghai. We look forward to your presence at the Shanghai Edition Hotel! |

On December 6th, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in China hosted a significant panel seminar on the topic of “Unveiling the EUCCC Position Paper and Insights from EUCCC Exco trip to Brussels".
We were delighted to invite Mr. Peter Ling-Vannerus, Chief Representative of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB (SEB) to talk about the main messages from the EUCCC in the position paper. During the seminar, Mr. Peter Ling-Vannerus also shared his main impressions from the week with more than 60 meetings that the EUCCC Exco and a few working group chairs had in Brussels with the EU Commission and EU parliament. The seminar aimed to provide attendees with valuable perspectives on the EUCCC Position paper and its implications for business operating in China. Key recommendations for the Chinese market to restore business confidence have been concluded as follows:1. Increase Productivity by Giving Greater Play to Market Forces 2. Reduce Corporate Risk by De-politicising the Business Environment and Removing Ambiguity from Legislation 3. Optimise Policymaking by Allowing Space for Discussion and Constructive Feedback 4. Address Socio-economic Challenges to Boost Consumption 5. Maintain a Balance Between Economic Recovery and the Low Carbon Transition. During the Q&A session, the main concerns that foreign banks and investment businesses facing during the meeting with China regulators and other questions have been discussed.
Thank you, Mr. Peter Ling-Vannerus, for the excellent and insightful presentation as always. Thank you also Sweden-China Trade Council as our promotion partner. We look forward to more collaboration in the future! |

There was also a traditional #Luciatåg#, the singing of songs related to the holiday of St. Lucia, held by Swedish Language students from a university in Shanghai's Songjiang district.
